Aliyah: Transition to Ascension

Walking with God on the Staircase to Heaven

The word aliyah is defined as going up or ascending. Traditionally it is related to the return of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. I would like to address aliyah in three points. The first is our journey through life. Second is our ascension in consciousness with God. The third is our ascension in power.

The analogy that I like to use for the first point is the slope of a line with the Cartesian coordinate system which starts at 0.0—what we call that the beginning of our life and at the end of our lives we need to find ourselves again at 0.0. As Paul said, “We came into this world with nothing, and we will leave with nothing” (1 Timothy 6:7), and as Job declared, “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return thither: the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). Ultimately in our life’s journey, we must decrease and God must increase. We started out with nothing and we leave with nothing in terms of the material things of this world.
