Shofar

The ram’s horn (shofar) is one of the most enduring of biblical symbols, harking back at least to the time of Abraham, when a ram was caught by its horns in a thorn bush as a substitute for the sacrifice of Isaac. The trembling wail of the shofar is a reminder to God’s people that they stand in the presence of a holy God.
